“I pray that from His glorious unlimited resources He will give you mighty inner strength through His Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love.”
I have learnt as people we have limitations, have you noticed that?
And dependant on age, our capabilities alter. We are governed by ability, imagination, strength, weakness, intellect. And the list could go on. I am grateful that I know and worship God, who is limitless. He is not dependent on what resources that are available to Him, as He has the power to create resources, as He has the ability to create something from nothing! (Think about creation for a moment).
At the start of this verse Paul is praying for the Ephesian church, but it is equally a prayer for us, a prayer for us to take to our hearts, for us to pray for others as well as our selves. He prays that through the Holy Spirit, and the unlimited resources the Father will give us – not just strength, but- “mighty inner strength”!
Dictionary: Mighty – showing great power, skill, strength of force, imposing, awesome. Strength – power, muscle, robustness, toughness, the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure, firmness, soundness, solidity, durability, stability, impregnability, resistance.
Paul knows only too well what is needed to ‘stay the course’. He knows as Christians what we are up against. In the previous verses he informs us about the battle we are in because of the attacks from the evil one. So he sees that it is vital and necessary for specific prayer for the children of God. For them to receive no ordinary strength but supernatural strength which can only come through and by the Holy Spirit.
